Scholarship
The Links, Incorporated is a national organization of African American women who have united for community service and leadership since 1946. The Dallas (TX) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, was founded in 1957. Since 1975, to encourage college attendance, the Dallas (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, has awarded approximately $503,000 in scholarships to 501 graduating seniors, who are Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color, who have demonstrated financial need and superior academic achievement. The Links, Incorporated, scholarship is open to graduating seniors who meet the criteria listed below. There will be one (1) first place scholarship award in the amount of $5,000.00. Other scholarships of lesser amounts may be awarded. The first-place scholarship, as well as any additional scholarships (if awarded); will be sent directly to the college upon verification of enrollment. The Links, Incorporated semi-finalist scholarship Zoom (virtual) interviews will be held on April 26th and 27th, 2025. The Links, Incorporated, scholarship awards will be presented during a reception and ceremony at a location to be determined.
First-Time Student Scholarship Recipients must:
- Be a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color) senior, graduating at the end of the 2024-2025 school year from a high school within Dallas County.
- Have applied or been accepted to a four-year college or university at the time of scholarship application.
- Have a cumulative 2.75/4.0 or 80 or higher-Grade Point Average (GPA) at the time of application.
- Be able to demonstrate a significant amount of community service.
- Be able to demonstrate financial need via the scholarship application.
- Be available for an interview with the Scholarship Committee if selected as a semi-finalist.
- Scholarships will be awarded to students who provide evidence of admission to a four-year college or university during the 2025-2026 academic year. Funds will be sent directly to the college/university once documentation is received.
The Continuing Educations Scholarship Recipient must:
1. Must be a 2022 through 2024 graduating senior, awarded a scholarship by The Dallas Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and currently enrolled in a four-year college.
2. Have a cumulative 3.0 or higher-Grade Point Average (GPA) at the time of application.
3. Be able to demonstrate financial need via the scholarship application.
The Carol Alleyne ARTS Scholarship
This is the inaugural year of the Carol Alleyne ARTS Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2024 in honor of Carol Alleyne’s lifelong love of the ARTS, and her passion for the Dallas Links STEAM Academy. One $500 scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving STEAM Academy Senior Scholar.
Senior STEAM Academy Scholars: To be considered, please share in an essay of 250-350 words, how you will continue to embrace the arts in your life and your community, as you grow into adulthood. Essays must be submitted to the Scholarship Chair, Cynthia Arterbery, at carter1071@aol.com, on or before March 3, 2025.
The Eddie Bernice Johnson STEAM Academy Scholarship
The Eddie Bernice Johnson STEAM Academy Scholarships were established in 2023, with the first group of scholarships awarded in 2024 to deserving STEAM Academy Senior Scholars. The Scholarships serve as a legacy and tribute to The Honorable Eddie Bernice Johnson for her service as the first African American and first woman Chair of the House Space, Science and Technology Committee, and for her dedication to the success of the Dallas Links STEAM Academy. Every deserving STEAM Academy Senior Scholar is eligible to receive a scholarship.
Senior STEAM Academy Scholars: To be considered, please share in an essay of 400-650 words, how your experiences in the STEAM Academy have helped shape your life and informed your decisions on college and your future career path. Essays must be submitted to the Scholarship Chair, Cynthia Arterbery, at carter1071@aol.com, on or before March 3, 2025.
The Fannie C. Smith Continuing Scholarship Application
Since 1975, The Dallas Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, has made higher education a program priority. We are offering the Fannie C. Smith Continuing Scholarship, which was established in 2021. Recipients who are currently enrolled in a four-year university and who were previously awarded by The Dallas Chapter of The Links, Incorporated are eligible. The student can apply during their freshman, sophomore, and junior years in college. The Fannie C. Smith Continuing Scholarship awards will be announced during a reception and ceremony during the Spring of 2025. Awards will range from $1,000 to $5,000.
- Submit a completed application by March 3, 2025.
- Submit an official grade transcript with the completed application.
- Submit two standard letters of recommendation.
The application is due by March 3, 2025.
Semi-finalists will be selected and notified via email for mandatory Zoom (virtual) interviews, which will be conducted on April 26th and 27th, 2025.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY Friday, March 3, 2025, at 11:59pm CST.
Important Dates to Note:
Saturday, April 5, 2025 – Semifinalist emails sent.
Saturday, April 26th and Sunday April 27, 2025 – Mandatory Zoom (virtual) Interviews for semi-finalists.
Monday, April 28, 2025 – Decision letters emailed to scholarship recipients.
Sunday, May 18, 2025 – In-person scholarship reception, finalists must attend.
